Domestic markets were headed for a strong closing on Friday, with both benchmark indices up nearly 1 per cent.

Indian equities ended higher on Thursday, the day of expiry, after trading the red through most of the session.

Benchmark indices closed on a strong note, with Nifty surpassing 20,000 for the first time since September 20, 2023.

The S&P BSE Sensex jumped 204 points, or 0.31 per cent, to end at 66,174 levels.

The S&P BSE Sensex touched a high of 66,235, and a low of 65,981, before settling almost unmoved at 66,018 - down five points.

The NSE Nifty 50 advanced 28.45 points or 0.14% to settle at 19,811.85, while the BSE Sensex gained 92.47 points or 0.14% to 66,023.24 in the closing bell. 

BSE Sensex was up 275.62 points or 0.42 percent at 65,930.77, and the Nifty was up 89.40 points or 0.45 percent at 19,783.40 in the closing bell today.

The Central bank, in a statement, said that the star symbol is an identification mark denoting that it is a replaced or reprinted banknote.
