TNI Bureau: India’s much-awaited nuclear project at Tamil Nadu’s Kudankulam seems to stand on the edge as the stand-off between the anti-nuclear plant protesters and police still continues. The village turned the ground for war yesterday with police crackdown on the protesters.
Around 10,000 villagers including men, women and children spent their night on Monday opposing the construction of the nuclear plant. Many protesters are still on fast in Idinthakari, which is the epicenter of the movement against the plant in Kudankulam.

The agitation turned violent as one farmer was killed in police firing and many jumped into the sea in Tuticorin on Monday. Police opened fire following the clash between the fishermen and police force.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has appealed to people not to protest against the project. Home Minister Suashil Kumar Shinde said that the protests are backed by the foreign NGOs. Earlier, the allegation was made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Jayalalithaa made it clear that the plant was safe. Around 4,000 security personnel, including Rapid Action Force, have been deployed in the area.
