The Omicron variant continues to play havoc in South Korea, which reported 621,328 new cases - a new record.

The number of new coronavirus deaths reported worldwide fell by 17% in the last week, according to the World Health Organisation.

India reported 2876 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, including 80 from Odisha. Kerala continues to report backlogs of Covid cases.

Odisha has reported 4 new Covid deaths, taking the death toll in the State to 9115. The new deaths were reported from Sundargarh (3) and Kandhamal (1).

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who had tested positive for coronavirus and is currently in home isolation, is among 40 new Omicron cases recorded in Bihar, National media reported.

No testing will be required for contacts of Confirmed Cases of Covid-19 unless they are identified as high risk based on age or comorbidities.

Odisha Health Minister Naba Das, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sasmit Patra and Bhadrak MLA Sanjib Mallick tested positive for Covid.
