Outrage in Delhi over 5-yr-old Girl’s Rape

The National capital witnessed huge outrage and protests over the rape and assault of a five-year-old girl. The protesters gathered outside Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s residence, 10, Janpath. The nation was shamed once again and only one question is raised: When women and Children will be safe in India?

In the morning, the protesters blocked the road in front of the police headquarters. They will move towards India Gate, where section 144 has been imposed fearing agitation. Earlier, scuffle between the protesters and police was reported outside Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde’s residence.

The protesters are demanding answers from the political leaders, government and police, who are the lawmakers and protectors of citizens. BJP leader and Supreme Court lawyer Ram Jethmalani said that mere punishments will not stop such heinous crime to be committed in the society.

Reviewing the situation in the capital city, the Home ministry is likely to reshuffle the police officers and strong action may be taken again Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar.

The victim is battling for life at AIIMS. She was locked up in the room, where she was raped and assaulted, for 40 hours. Doctors found a bottle and candle from her private part. Her genitals were mutilated.

The incident could remind the heinous crime that had sparked protests after a 23-year-old para medical girl was gangraped in a moving bus on December 16, last year.

Sonia Gandhi says, “Action and not words, required to check incidents like this heinous rape of a five-year-old.” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Vice President Hamid Ansari, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj expressed shock and anguish over the brutal rape of a five-year-old in Delhi. However, their expression and reaction will not stop such crime to take place in India.
