Ek Thi Daayan: A Complete Review

Kannan Iyer’s directorial debut ‘EK Thi Daayan’ can be named as one of the most unusual Bollywood horror films one might have seen. While it has damn scary moments to thrill, the flick also has a creative style of presentation that magnetizes you.

Plot – Bobo (Emraan Hashmi) is a magician, whose life seems to be falling apart. Although he has a ladylove (Huma Qureshi) and a seemingly happy life, he can’t free himself of illusions that continually haunt him.

Now with Bobo’s past comes alive with Psychiatric help and he comes to know about his memories from it. He is convinced that Lisa is the Dayan. But is she, really?

Undoubtedly the film has some terrifying and chilling moments. There are high, gripping moments in the film, especially the first half, its hell scary. But in the second half the film starts losing pace. The film has got a nice ending but of course, at the cost of a boring second half.

The three women and the single man have done wonders. Emraan Hashmi strikes a chord for successfully portraying the character of a guy, battling personal crisis. He brings out Bobo’s obsession about witchcraft quiet well. The three beautiful and sexy girls add to the scare quotient flawlessly. In short, the actors have executed a brilliant job, especially Emraan.

Huma Qureshei looks stunning and balanced, while Konkana Sen Sharma is just lively and amazing. Kalki could have done slightly better, but it is okay since her character lacks at certain points (in writing).

Mukul Sharma’s screenplay and Kannan’s direction has got something to please the audience.

Verdict – ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ becomes a must watch flick for its solid scary scenes in the first half. And if you’re a fan of Emran Hashmi, you will love to watch him portraying a character quiet well, though we expect him just to romance (with lot of kisses) with the beautiful girls opposite her.
