Manmohan asks Pakistan to shut down Terror Machinery
For the first time ever, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has delivered a hard-hitting speech at the UN General Assembly, asking Pakistan to shut down its terror machinery on their soil and show zero tolerance towards terrorism. The PM also made it clear that India will never compromise on Jammu & Kashmir, which remains an integral part of the country.
The PM’s aggressive approach was attributed to the recent terror attacks on a Police Station and an Army Camp, which left 12 people dead. He was slammed for a “soft” approach towards Pakistan. With his hard-hitting speech to his critics back at home and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif.
Earlier, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had demanded a solution to the Kashmir issue on the basis of UN security council resolutions. But, Manmohan rejected it, saying India India favoured settlement of all issues on the basis of the Shimla Agreement.
“For progress to be made, it is imperative that the territory of Pakistan and the areas under its control are not utilized for aiding and abetting terrorism directed against India. It is equally important that the terrorist machinery that draws its sustenance from Pakistan be shut down. There must be a clear understanding of the fact that Jammu & Kashmir is integral part of India and that there can never, ever, be a compromise with the unity and territorial integrity of India,” said Dr. Singh.
