IC-814 Hijack: Terror Suspect Mehrajuddin arrested
TNI Bureau: The Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have arrested Mehrajuddin Dand, a terror suspect involved in Kandahar plane hijack and several terror activities. He had allegedly provided logistics for plane hijacking of IC-814 in 1999.
Mehrajuddin Dand alias Javed is believed to be an ISI operative, whose name is found in India’s 20 most wanted fugitives list given to Pakistan. He has a close link with United Jihad Council chief Syed Salahuddin and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
Mehrajuddin was also involved in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar blasts in 1996. He was hiding in Nepal with a fake Hindu name. He was arrested today in the Kishtwar district.
He had played a key role by providing travel papers to the Indian Airlines plane IC-814 hijackers. The plane was hijacked on December 24, 1999.
