Domestic equity markets extended their gains on Monday as the benchmark indices kicked off the week on a positive note.

India's benchmark indexes ended lower on Thursday, dragged by financials in a consolidation of sorts after rising for seven consecutive sessions and hitting fresh record highs.

Domestic markets were headed for a strong closing on Friday, with both benchmark indices up nearly 1 per cent.

Benchmark indices closed on a strong note, with Nifty surpassing 20,000 for the first time since September 20, 2023.

The S&P BSE Sensex jumped 204 points, or 0.31 per cent, to end at 66,174 levels.

BSE Sensex was up 275.62 points or 0.42 percent at 65,930.77, and the Nifty was up 89.40 points or 0.45 percent at 19,783.40 in the closing bell today.

The BSE benchmark index briefly hovered in the positive zone as the index touched a high of 58,028 this morning.
