Domestic markets were headed for a strong closing on Friday, with both benchmark indices up nearly 1 per cent.

Benchmark indices closed on a strong note, with Nifty surpassing 20,000 for the first time since September 20, 2023.

The S&P BSE Sensex jumped 204 points, or 0.31 per cent, to end at 66,174 levels.

BSE Sensex was up 275.62 points or 0.42 percent at 65,930.77, and the Nifty was up 89.40 points or 0.45 percent at 19,783.40 in the closing bell today.

The BSE benchmark index briefly hovered in the positive zone as the index touched a high of 58,028 this morning.

The frontline equity indices on the BSE and National Stock Exchange (NSE) opened lower on Friday and slipped over 0.4 per cent in the early trade weighed by banking stocks amid weak global cues.

Today, domestic equity markets hit higher intra-day trade amid mixed global cues and strong foreign flows.

The 30-share BSE Sensex index was down 288.8 points to 57,138.12 in early trade, and the broader NSE Nifty-50 index declined 79.4 points to 17,014.95.

Key indices Nifty50 climbed over 150 points to trade above 17,000 levels and the S&P BSE Sensex jumped over 450 points to trade at 57,149 levels.
