Rajnath Singh “forced” to cancel Muzaffarnagar Visit
BJP President Rajnath Singh was forced to cancel his visit to riot-hit Muzaffarnagar after the District Magistrate asked him not to come to the area, citing law and order problem.
Rajnath Singh, who was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at one time, has wondered whether the UP Government treats him as an anti-social element or rioter that it had to deny permission to him to visit the area.
Even though Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were allowed to visit riot-hit Muzaffarnagar a few days ago, denial of permission to Rajnath Singh, is certain to generate tension in Uttar Pradesh. Rajnath hit out at the Samajwadi Party government, saying BJP MLAs are being arrested selectively to cover up SP’s wrongdoings.
Earlier yesterday, BJP MLA Suresh Rana was arrested in the Gomti Nagar area in Lucknow. He was sent to judicial custody for 14 days. Another BJP MLA Sangeet Som surrendered in Meerut today. Non-bailable arrest warrants were issued against 16 leaders from BJP, BSP, Congress and others for inciting violence. A BSP MLA Noor Salim Rana was also arrested today.
