TNI Bureau: While Congress claims that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is creating a climate to attract foreign investments that would boost the slow economy, he was criticised by the Opposition and people of India, even outrage was shown at a conference in New Delhi on Saturday.

The government should analyse that the economic reforms they are batting for, would not help them to win people’s heart. An instance of public outrage was seen in the national capital when a man took off his shirt and climbed to a desk shouting slogans against Dr Singh while he was about to address a conference on economic growth organised by the Indian Law Institute at Vigyan Bhawan today.

The protester was identified as Santosh Kumar, a lawyer registered with the Supreme Court Bar Association. He shouted anti-Manmohan slogans “PM vapas jao (PM, go back)”.

Even though, he was forced to out of the hall, the slogans and protests left a mark and the government should not ignore such thing. Dr, who is being criticised for his speech addressed to nation on Friday evening, and his remarks that “money does not grow on trees”, the incident is another setback for him when public openly protested him in an international conference.

Addressing at the conference, Dr Singh said that UPA government is trying to maintain the transparency and creating climate to invite investors. He gave the example of Mahatma Gandhi, who had launched satyagraha, but the reference seems vague as the economic reforms have been highly criticised.

He said that the government should allow the private companies to grow. He talked about the upcoming bills like new Companies Bill under which the corporate laws will be transformed.

While the government is facing heats from its allies and Opposition, even key ally Trinamool Congress parted its way from the government over the decision on diesel price hike, FDI in retail and cap on LPG cylinders, PM tried to convince the nation justifying the steps taken by the government.

The upcoming time will say, how Dr Singh’s policies would be boon to the country and how people of India are getting benefits.
