Hockey Team slumps to New Low, Mary Kom Wins
TNI Bureau: The Indian Hockey slumped to a new low, as the team suffered their fourth successive loss at the London Olympics. With this humiliating loss against South Korea, India is now heading towards an 1th-12th finish for the first time in the history of Olympics.
India, which boasts of eight gold medals, one silver and two bronze medals at the Olympics, never played like a unit in this mega event. They conceded three goals in the last 11 minutes yesterday to go down 1-4 to South Korea.
India had lost to the Netherlands 2-3 in the first match. They lost to New Zealand 1-3 and Germany 2-5. Even if India win against Belgium in the last league match, they will finish at the bottom in Group B and will have to play for 11-12 position only. It will be the lowest-ever finish for India at the Olympics.
Meanwhile, woman Boxer Mary Kom brought smiles to the Indian camp by winning her debut Olympic bout in style. She defeated Karolina Michalczuk of Poland 19-14 to storm into the quarterfinals. She is now one win away from a medal.
