BJP Leader V Ramesh hacked to Death in Tamil Nadu
Senior BJP leader V Ramesh was hacked to death by unidentified assailants near his house in Salem town in Tamil Nadu. The incident triggered protests across Chennai and a shutdown call by the party. No arrest has been made yet.
Ramesh, 52, was the general secretary of the BJP’s state unit. He became second leader of the BJP in Tamil Nadu to be assassinated in the past one year.
Police said that the leader had gone to his office to discuss party affairs at around 9 pm on Friday. He was attacked by four people with sharp-edge weapons while returning to his home.
The identity of the assailants and the motive for the attack are still unknown.
BJP condemned the incident by setting five government buses on fire. Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj on Saturday tweeted: “This is the third assassination of a Tamil Nadu BJP leader in a sequence. We demand a thorough probe into these killings”.
