India celebrates Air Force Day
The Indian Air Force is celebrating its 82nd Air Force Day today. A grand parade was organised at Hindon Air Force Station to mark the occasion. Parade commenced with spectacular fly past comprising of Mi-17, Mi-25, Mi 35 helicopters and three C-130J Hercules aircrafts.
Cricketer SachinTendulkar also attended the parade. He was conferred with the honorary title of Group Captain four years ago and was the first person with no aviation background to get the honour. Chiefs of Army and Navy also witnessed the parade.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has saluted Indian Air Force personnel on Air Force Day. In Twitter, Mr Modi writes, “Air force personnel are country’s pride and their bravery, commitment and dedication continues to inspire the nation”.
On the occasion, Air Force Chief Arup Raha said, India wants peace and tranquility across border and efforts are being made to bring ceasefire violations to an end.
The Indian Air Force was officially established on October 8, 1932. It has been engaged in the four wars with the Pakistan and one with China since independence.
The Indian Air Force has the strength of about 170,000 personnel and more than 1,400 aircraft and considered as one of the leading air forces of world. It has prime responsibility to safeguard the Indian territory from all risks, carry out the aerial warfare during any clash and provide help during natural calamities to the affected areas and people.
