UPPSC Exam Results cancelled over Quota Policy Row
The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) examination results were cancelled, which were declared on the basis of a controversial reservation policy. The fate of hundreds of students would be decided later.
The results of combined civil service/upper subordinate examinations (Mains) were declared on July 4. The UPPSC cancelled the results saying the reservation policy whereby caste-based quotas were introduced at the preliminary stages, was being rolled back. However, the revised results would be declared at the earliest, the Commission assured. The decision was taken at a meeting on Friday.
The move evoked strong reactions from pro-reservation students and dalit agitators who accused the ruling Samajwadi Party of betrayal.
The decision comes after the Samajwadi Party expressed its displeasure saying the government was not taken into confidence by the Commission while taking the decision over the reservation policy which had triggered protests in the recent past.
Further, the Allahabad High Court on July 22 had reserved its judgment on a petition challenging the new reservation policy. The court had questioned the haste of the Commission in bringing into effect the amendment in the reservation policy.
