After the setback in the first ODI in Pune, Team India bounced back to complete a massive run chase – only second best in ODI history and win the second ODI in Jaipur to level the seven-match series 1-1. The pitch turned out to be a bowlers’ nightmare while batsmen made merry throughout.
This is the second highest run chase in the history of ODI, as Indian batsmen made light of the mammoth total of 359 posted by Australia. The Kangaroos had once failed to defend 434 against South Africa. And, they faltered this time in Jaipur ODI. The only record they had in this game – their five top batsmen scored fifties.
For India, Virat Kohli scored his 16th ODI and completed the ton in just 52 balls (the fastest ever by any Indian and seventh fastest in the world), while Rohit Sharma too hit 141* off just 123 balls. India achieved the target of 360 with 40 balls to spare!

Earlier, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted 359/5 in 50 overs. Aaron Finch (50), Philip Hughes (83), Shane Watson (59), George Bailey (92* off 50 balls) and Glenn Maxwell (53) were the top scorers. For India, Vinay Kumar took two wickets.
In reply, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan added 176 for the first wicket in 26.1 overs. Dhawan made 95 off 86 balls. Rest of the work was done by Rohit and Kohli, who added unbeaten 183 for the second wicket to seal the match in favour of Team India.
India reached 362/1 in 43.3 overs and won the match by nine wickets. Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 141 off 123 balls with 17 boundaries and 4 sixes. Kohli made 100* off 52 balls 8 boundaries and 7 sixes. Rohit Sharma was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
