Rajasthan Minister Babu Lal Nagar accused of Rape
In a big blow to the Congress in Rajasthan a few months before the assembly polls, Minister for Dairy and Rural Industries, Babu Lal Nagar, has been accused of rape of a 27-year-old woman. An FIR has already been registered against him.
Babu Lal Nagar has claimed conspiracy behind the allegations and rubbished those. Initially, the police did not file an FIR, but later had to following the court’s intervention.
An FIR has been registered against Nagar under sections 376 (rape) and 323 (causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. The case will be investigated by the Crime Branch of the Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID).
The woman has alleged that the Minister had called her to his house on September 11, lured her promising a job. When she refused, Nagar reportedly confined her to a room, beat up, and then raped her. Nagar termed the woman a “cheat” and “blackmailer”, saying she had brought similar charges against another person in 2012 and then extorted money from him.
Latest Update (Sept 19): Babu Lal Nagar resigned from his post after holding a discussion with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
