Priyanka Vadra to contest from Phulpur!
The Allahabad Congress Unit passed a resolution on Tuesday, asking Priyanka Vadra to contest election from Phulpur, once represented by her great-grandfather and India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The demand comes a day after Congress went out of its way to deny speculation about Vadra being fielded as a star campaigner for the party all over the country.
Interestingly a hoarding in Lucknow reads in Hindi, “Maiya ab Rahti Beemar, Bhaiya par badh gaya bhaar, Priyanka Phoolpur se bano ummedwaar, party ka karo prachaar, Congress ki sarkaar banao teesri baar (Mother is often ill now, brother (Rahul Gandhi) is over burdened, Priyanka become the candidate from Phoolpur and campaign for the party, help the Congress get elected for the third time).
Forty-one year old Vadra has earlier campaigned mostly in her mother Sonia Gandhi’s and brother Rahul’s constituencies of Raebareili and Amethi, respectively. However, it is remain to see how she will help Congress and stop the Narendra Modi wave in the forthcoming election in 2014.
