After spending the Diwali with our brave soldiers in Siachen Glacier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to Srinagar and met people from various walks of life. The PM has announced an additional package of Rs 745 crore for the rehabilitation work in flood-ravaged Kashmir. He had earlier announced Rs 1,000 interim assistance for Jammu & Kashmir during his last visit.
Out of Rs 745 crore, Rs 570 crore will be spent on rebuilding homes in Jammu & Kashmir, while Rs 175 crore will be dedicated to renovation of six major hospitals in the valley, which were worst affected by the floods. Modi also announced that free books and notebooks would be provided to thousands of schoolchildren.

Besides holding talks with the J&K Governor N.N. Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the PM held talks with delegations from National Conference, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and BJP. The Congress had boycotted the PM’s visit.
The leaders of associations of Fruit & Grain Merchants, Hoteliers, Houseboat Owners, Shikarawalas, Motor Drivers, NGOs, Kashmiri Pandits and Sikh Groups too met the Prime Ministers and discussed various issues with him. Several other villagers were also secretly ferried to Raj Bhavan to meet the PM. But, their identity was kept secret due to security concerns. The PM’s visit to the Valley acted as a balm for the Kashmiris, who are having a tough time aftermath recent floods. Modi assured all kind of support to the people of the state.
