Nitish Kumar hints at Third Front
After almost making up his mind to break away from the BJP-led NDA, JD(U) leader and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has hinted at a possible Third Front with the help of like-minded party. Nitish’s statement came even if BJP President Rajnath Singh and Murli Manohar Joshi called him to defuse the crisis within the NDA.
In a bid to woo the Congress Party, Nitish Kumar yet again plays the ‘Special Category State’ status card, saying Bihar definitely deserves a special status and the centre should move forward to take a clear stand on this.
While a Third Front with Nitish, Naveen and Mamata could be a possibility, Nitish is also exploring the possibility of forging an alliance with the Congress Party so that his party can derive maximum benefits in the run up to 2014 polls.
The Bihar BJP leaders do not want to disturb the alliance from their side, lest it would make Nitish a “martyr”. While they don’t bother about the JD(U) any more, publicly they are making statements, saying the alliance should continue in Bihar.
