NE Exodus: Facebook to remove “inflammatory” Content
TNI Bureau: Facebook has cleared that it will remove content, block pages or even disable accounts of those users who upload ‘inflammatory’ content that provoke violence or effect hate speech. Indian Authorities had urged the world’s most popular social networking site in this context.
Indian government had brought to Facebook’s notice that the posting of contents, including inflammatory matters and doctored pictures and videos had created huge social unrest recently in the country.
However, Facebook has encouraged people to continue to use the site for reporting content they are concerned about so that they can investigate and take action quick. The site has intimated that a large number of Facebook employees are working round the clock in both India and the US to review and monitor the content and take necessary action.
Facebook has taken the step seriously as it tags the situation to be an emergency one. The company also describes their steps in this context to be its part of social responsibilities.
Expressing serious concern over the current situation in India, so far Facebook has already removed quite a significant number of such “inflammatory” and “hate” content from its website and in some cases blocked pages – report says.
Facebook has some 50 million users in India.
