Coalgate: Cong-BJP Standoff intensifies, Parliament adjourned

TNI Bureau: The proceedings of Parliament were disrupted for the second day over the CAG report on coal block allocation when the main opposition BJP demanded resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The political drama over Coalgate continued in both the houses of Parliament today. The BJP has been demanding the resignation of the PM and the allies of Congress offered a debate on the CAG findings that say that Rs 1.86 lakh crore losses occurred in coal allocation when Dr Singh was holding the coal ministry.

The Opposition shouted slogans in the Rajya Sabha and the same situation was found in the Lok Sabha. The BJP made it clear that they will continue to disrupt Parliament till the PM resigns.

The Lok Sabha was first adjourned due to uproar till 12 am, the Upper house till 11.30 am. When the situation continued so after the Houses resumed, again adjourned till 2 pm. Later, Parliament was paralysed and it was adjourned for a day.
