Narendra Modi declared BJP’s PM Candidate
Breaking News! It’s official now, as Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been declared as BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate for 2014 polls. Modi’s name was cleared at the party’s Parliamentary Board meeting this evening. The Akali Dal and Shiv Sena have already extended their support to Narendra Modi. The BJP workers erupted into joy and celebrations across the country even before the official announcement was made.
Modi’s coronation was not easy, as BJP Patriarch LK Advani played the obstacle in his way. Hectic parleys were held yesterday and today to placate the veteran leader, but in vain. The RSS stood firm behind Modi, ignoring the views and reservations from Advani, who did not budge and did not even attend the crucial Parliamentary Board meeting.
Pressure from the RSS, cadres, leaders and many other people across the country, forced BJP President Rajnath Singh not to prolong the announcement related to Modi’s anointment. Rajnath chose to disregard the views imposed by Advani, who made a ‘laughing stock’ of himself in the public arena.
Once the decks were cleared, Narendra Modi took a special aircraft from Gandhinagar to reach Delhi in the afternoon. Modi’s arrival in Delhi, marked the beginning of ‘Modi Era’ in the BJP, which is eyeing to return to power, riding high on Modi’s popularity and chanting ‘NaMo NaMo’.
Narendra Modi, born on September 17, 1950, has been at the helm in Gujarat since 2001. He won the assembly elections three times in a row from 2002-2012. Modi is a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and is described as a Hindu nationalist. He is the most sought-after politician on Social Media. The India Inc. too wants to see him as the PM of the nation. It would be interesting to see whether Modi can wash away the taints of 2002 riots and win everyone’s trust to occupy the top post.
