While Cook was out for 122, Pietersen was unlucky to miss out on a double hundred. He scored 186. Samit Patel (26), Matt Prior (21) and Compton (29) were the other contributors. For India, Pragyan Ojha took five wickets, while Ashwin and Harbhajan took two wickets each.

England have taken a 84-run lead in the first innings on a wicket that is clearly assisting the spinners. England’s spinners Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann struck hard to claim the wickets of Sehwag and Pujara with just 37 runs on board.
