Lance Armstrong banned for Life, stripped of Titles
TNI Bureau: As expected, the International Cycling Union (UCI) has endorsed the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) report and banned Lance Armstrong for life. The UCI also stripped him of all seven Tour de France titles he had won. He may lose the 2000 Olympics bronze medal too.
Lance Armstrong, who was considered as a legend in sports history, will be erased from the record books with the latest verdict. Legal action could be initiated against him to recover $12 million paid in bonus payments for the last four of his titles.
USADA had banned Armstrong after taking the testimonials of 26 witnesses, including his former teammates into account. They all confirmed that Armstrong took drugs during his career. UCI chief McQuaid said, “people who have cheated can actually help the sport after realizing what they’ve done is wrong”.
