Lalit Modi removed as RCA President
Under pressure from the BCCI and N Srinivasan, the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has removed Lalit Modi as its President at an emergency meeting this evening. 23 out of 33 members voted against him today. Vice-president Amin Pathan will take over as acting President. Three of Modi’s supporters were also removed.
It can be recalled that Lalit Modi was elected the RCA President in December 2013 in an election supervised by a court. He had received the votes of 29 out of 33 units in the election. However, the BCCI did not accept the verdict and punished the RCA by barring him from participating in the domestic season.
The BCCI argued that since the BCCI had sacked Lalit Modi as the IPL Commissioner way back in 2010 and also brought serious charges against him, the RCA violated the Clause 32.7 of the Board’s constitution by electing a tainted person and thus denting the BCCI’s image. The RCA wanted to end the stand-off at the earliest and had no option but to succumb to the BCCI.
