Keran Incursion: Second Betrayal by Nawaz Sharif
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has done it again! He was at the helm of affairs when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was betrayed with the Kargil incursion soon after he initiated the peace process. And, today, while Mannmohan Singh shook hands with Sharif in New York, the Keran incursion occurred. This is the second betrayal by Sharif, who tries to fool the world with his statements that he wants peace with India.
The massive operation to flush out the militants, has been going on at a height of 9,000 to 10,000 feet in a densely forested area. At least 30-40 armed militants, aided by Pakistani Army jawans have entered the Indian side of the LoC in the Keran sector in Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir. The infiltration took place on September 24, six days before Manmohan met Sharif.
It’s very unfortunate that the Indian Government and Army had to hide the information about Keran incursion although it started much before the handshake between Manmohan and Sharif took place. At least 15 terrorists have been killed so far, while 5 Indian jawans have sustained injuries.
The Army jawans are trying their best to flush out the terrorists by engaging them in gunbattle throughout day and night. The Army confirmed that the incident was a Border Action Team (BAT) operation-cum-infiltration attempt, which is in the knowledge of top brass in Pakistan.
Although PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi have maintained a stoic silence over the Keran incursion, India’s President Pranab Mukherjee sent a strong message to Pakistan, asking that country to dismantle the terror module on its soil. Pranab said even if Pakistan calls the terrorists as ‘non-state actors’, this is obvious that they have not come from heaven.
