1) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi. He also invited Swaraj to visit China. It was the first official bilateral talk with any country after Narendra Modi came to power. Both sides termed the talks as useful and productive. China has assured full support to India’s development.
2) Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, seeking a permanent solution to the fishermen issue. The letter came in the wake of arrest of 82 Indian fishermen by Sri Lankan Navy in two separate incidents. The Sri Lankan Navy accused the Indian fishermen of illegal poaching.
3) At least 8 children died and six other fell ill, as Litchi virus encephalopathy wrecked havoc in West Bengal. The incident was reported from Malda district of West Bengal.
4) Egypt’s former Army Chief Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi has been sworn as President for a four-year term.
