India beat England in Mohali, Win ODI Series
TNI Bureau: India defeated England by 5 wickets in the fourth ODI in Mohali to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five match series. With this, India managed to retain the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings. It was also England’s 4th straight ODI series loss in India.
Earlier, India won the toss and elected to field first. The bowlers kept the scoring rate under control. A late charge by Kevin Pietersen and Joseph Root helped England score 257/7 in 50 overs. Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen scored 76 each. Root remained unbeaten on 57. For India, Jadeja took two wickets, while Ishant and Ashwin took two wickets each.
Chasing a victory target of 258, India lost Gambhir early. But make-shift opener Rohit Sharma scored a powerful knock of 83 to put India on hunt. He got good support from Kohli, who made 26. After Rohit Sharma’s departure, Suresh Raina led the run chase. He remained unbeaten on 89, as India reached 258/5 in 47.3 overs. Tredwell took two wickets. Suresh Raina was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
