IM Cadre Afzal Usmani escapes from Mumbai Court
In a big embarrassment to the Mumbai Police, an Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative, Afzal Mutalib Usmani, has escaped from the Sessions Court in Mumbai today. The escape occurred even if there was tight security arrangements at the court premises.
Afzal Usmani had earlier tried to escape from the custody of the Crime Branch when he was arrested first. Efforts are on to nab Usmani. A massive manhunt has been launched by the security personnel.
Usmani is one of the key accused in the 2008 Ahmedabad and Surat blasts. He also acted as a conduit in many other terror attacks in the country. He was arrested on September 23, 2008. Usmani’s brother Faiz died of brain haemorrhage after he was picked up in the Mumbai blasts case.
