ICC Twenty20 World Cup: India thrash England by 90 Runs
TNI Bureau: India made the amends for their not-so-impressive show against Afghanistan, as they thrashed England by 90 runs in the last Group A tie of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup. Both teams have already qualified for the Super 8 stage. India had beaten Afghanistan by 23 runs in the first match.
England won the toss and elected to field first. Without Sehwag, Zaheer and Ashwin, India scored 170/4 in 20 overs. Gautam Gambhir scored 45. Virat Kohli made 40. Rohit Sharma played the anchor’s role, as he remained unbeaten on 55 off 33 balls. For England, Steven Finn took two wickets.
Chasing a victory target of 171, England lost Hales in the very first over. They never recovered from that shock and bowled out for 90 in 14.4 overs. Craig Kieswetter scored 35. Harbhahan took four wickets, while Irfan Pathan and Piyush Chawla took two wickets each. Harbhajan Singh was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
