TNI Bureau: The 543rd anniversary of the founder of Sikh religion Guru Nanak Dev Ji is being celebrated today with religious fervour and devotion. On this day in 1469 Guru Nanak was born in Nankana Saheb. Sikhs from India and abroad visited Nankana Saheb to pay tribute to the great Guru.
Devotees are pronging to Gurudwaras to listen to Sabd Kirtan and discourses on the life and works of Guru Nanak. Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib are being performed in Gurudwaras. During the day special, kirtan darbar of Gurbani will be there. Community kitchens have been planned for the day. People have illuminated their houses.
In Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, special programmes of Gurbani citations are going on in Gurudwaras since early morning.Special seminars are being organised at many places to tell the new generation about teaching of Gurunanak Dev ji.
The President and Vice President and Prime Minister have greeted the nation on this occasion.

In his message, Mukherjee said “the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Devji are of profound significance to mankind. His message of love, harmony and brotherhood, his universal vision and compassion provide inspiration for all humanity.”
Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari said that Guru Nanak Dev Ji, showed the path of peace, harmony and righteousness. His message of devotion to God, excellence of conduct and tolerance has timeless relevance and can help in transforming our society.
Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh said that the life and message of Guru Nanak ji give us the strength to face current challenges being faced by our society.
