CRPF in Shopian to be replaced by J&K Police
After the death of five people in CRPF firing, the Jammu & Kashmir government has ordered the CRPF to be replaced with J&K Police to restore normalcy in Shopian region. A magisterial probe has been ordered into the incident and circumstances that led to firing at the mob.
The Gagren CRPF camp, which has been under the scanner ever since the firing incident took place last Saturday, will be moved to another place. While the CRPF maintains that all four people killed by CRPF on Saturday were militants, the cops claim three of them were civilians, while the fourth one was a Pakistani militant. But the cops could not answer what the civilians were doing with the slain terrorist.
Curfew has been in place in Shopian for the sixth consecutive day, as the locals resorted to demonstrations and violence in protest against the death of three youths. Another youth died in CRPF firing on Wednesday during violent protests after the CRPF camp attack.
Senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for a shutdown across the Valley on September 13 and 14.
