Congressmen close Restaurant in Mumbai over Food Bill
Seems like, Congress believes in ‘Force’ to control others in democracy. The recent shut down of a popular restaurant in Mumbai could be an instance that showed the party’s attitude towards people who dare to protest against UPA government on food bills and tax on AC restaurants.
It came to light after angry Congressmen on Monday asked the owner of Aditi Pure Veg restaurant, located at Parel, opposite KEM Hospital, to shut the shop as he had allegedly started printing ‘defamatory’ material against the Congress-led UPA government on food bills.
Around 30 to 35 workers of the Indian Youth Congress shut down the restaurant and later approached the Bhoiwada police against the businessman for defamation. It is alleged that order for closure came from the party leaders in Delhi after the partymen found that the hotel owner had printed material against the ruling alliance at Centre.
The Youth Congress workers had approached the restaurant and demanded its closure and asked for an apology. The receipt of the bill showed, ‘As per UPA government, eating money (2G, Coal, CWG scam) is a necessity and eating food in an AC restaurant is a luxury’.
A non-cognisable complaint (NC) has been registered against the restaurant under Section 501 of IPC. The matter was settled down after the owner of the restaurant owner promised that he will not circulate those bills now.
The central government has introduced service tax on eating at air-conditioned restaurants in recent years, annoying customers, who are paying extra cost for having food there.
Latest Update: The restaurant was re-opened after the Management withdrew the satirical posting from the bill.
