Chris Gayle Fires, West Indies beat Sri Lanka
Chris Gayle showed his intention and character in the first match of the tri-series, as he scored yet another explosive hundred to power West Indies thrash Sri Lanka by 6 wickets at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica.
West Indies won the toss and elected to field first. Sri Lanka bowled out for 208 in 48.3 overs, as Narine and Rampaul wrecked havoc. Tharanga (25), Jayawardene (52), Chandimal (21) and Mathews (55*) were the top scorers. Sunil Narine took four wickets, while Rampaul took three wickets. Dwayne Bravo took two wickets.
Chasing a victory target of 209, West Indies reached 209/4 in 37.5 overs and won the match by six wickets. Gayle made 109 off 100 balls with 9 boundaries and 7 sixes. Johnson Charles (29) and Darren Bravo (27) were other top contributors. Gayle was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
