Chandrababu Naidu blasts Telecom Service Providers
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has vehemently criticized the private telecom companies due to lack of connectivity even five days after Cyclone Hudhud devastated the coast, and accused them of being driven only by profit motive.
At a high-level meeting in Visakhapatnam with top executives of telecom service providers, was attended among others by Bharti Group chairman Sunil Mittal, Naidu lost his cool and, mincing no words, demanded a “straight answer” from them for their “non-performance”.
Telecom executives allegedly said mobile services would be restored to near normal by evening of October 18.
“… that means you are totally commercial … you are exploiting the government … public,” the visibly angry Chief Minister blasted the companies, indicating in no uncertain terms that the service providers let him down in rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
Mr. Naidu expressed his displeasure and blamed that lack of telephone connectivity has widened a huge communication gap between the government and the affected people.
On a serious note, the Chief Minister said that telecom companies should also have a social responsibility. He also urged private telecom companies to reduce tariff in the cyclone Hudhud-hit region.
