CCI slaps Rs 52.04 crore Fine on BCCI

TNI Bureau: An upset Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to appeal against the  Competition Commission of India (CCI)’s decision to impose a penalty of Rs 52.04 crore on it for indulging in anti-competitive practices.

The CCI observed that the BCCI abused its position and power while graning the franchise rights in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and another professional league tournament. The CCI asked the BCCI to deposit the penalty amount within 90 days.

The BCCI is planning legal course of action and will appeal against the decision at an appropriate forum. The complaint against the BCCI was filed by Surinder Singh Barmi from Delhi in November 2010.
