CBI Gives Relief to Mulayam, Closes DA Case
In a huge relief to Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, the CBI has finally closed the Disproportionate Assets (DA) against him and his son and Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav.
Two months ago, a CBI officer has recommended the closure of six-year-old investigation into the corruption case, which was later approved by CBI Director Ranjit Sinha. The CBI cited lack of evidence while closing the case.
The petitioner Vishwanath Chaturvedi, had urged the Supreme Court to order a probe into the assets of Mulayam in 2007. He expressed his disappointment over the CBI move and has said that he would challenge the decision.
It is believed that Mulayam Singh Yadav was rewarded by the Centre for his continuous support to the government over the last 9 years. He also saved the government from blushes during the voting on many legislation, including Nuclear Deal debate, Jan Lokpal Bill, Food Security Bill etc.
