BJP hits back at Nitish Kumar after Split
Still smiting under Nitish Kumar’s snapping of ties with the BJP, the Bihar unit led by Sushil Modi has lashed out at him for ending the 17-year-old alliance in a “disgraceful” manner. Sushil Modi asked Nitish Kumar to resign and seek a fresh trust vote under JD(U) umbrella, as he was chosen as the CM by the NDA in 2010. However, he did not call for fresh elections, saying Bihar cannot afford a mid-term poll.
Sushil Modi called Nitish Kumar’s desertion as a “betrayal” to the people of Bihar, who voted for both BJP and JD(U) for good governance. He asked the people to teach a lesson to the JD(U) in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Sushil Modi took strong exceptions to the dismissal of 11 BJP Ministers of the state by Nitish Kumar to end the alliance in an acrimonious note. He also termed today’s date as a ‘Black Letter Day’ in the history of politics.
The Bihar BJP has also called for a ‘bandh’ across the state on June 18, a day before Nitish Kumar will see the trust vote in Bihar Assembly. The party has decided to observe the day as “Day of Betrayal” or “Bishwasghat Divas”. The party has decided to sit in the Opposition with its 91 MLAs in the 243-member Bihar Assembly.
