TNI Bureau: A new research in the US has found that kissing enhances the threat of spreading a viral disease called ‘Mono’, which is also known as the ‘Kissing disease’.
The study that was conducted by the researchers of the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, in the United States took the case of around 546 college students and found that deep kissing is the most probable reason for development of the kissing disease in human being. The respondents included freshman to elderly persons.
The ‘mono’ disease is spread through contact with an infected person’s saliva. So it is most obvious that by deep kissing only the saliva of a human being gets transferred to another.
The Kissing disease is caused by the Epstein Barr virus. It can also be spread through coughing, sneezing or sharing food.

The researchers in this study tested all the subjects’ blood for antibodies against the Epstein Barr virus and found that about 63 per cent of the students tested positive for the antibodies. Doctors diagnosed 66 of the students with mono.
The researchers also worked on other factors of the respondents such as diet, rate of exercise they do and the level of stress, but finally it was brought out that kissing was the prime reason for development of the mono disease.
Symptoms of the “kissing disease” include sore throat, fatigue, headache, fever decreased appetite, and swollen tonsils.
The findings of the study were published in ‘MyHealthNewsDaily’.
