In reply to India’s first innings score of 316, England finished Day 2 at 216/1. Alastair Cook scored his third century of the series and remains unbeaten on 136 at close. Jonathan Trott is batting on 21. Nick Compton was the only batsman to be given out today. He scored 57 and added 165 runs with Cook for the first wicket. Cook was let off by Pujara when he was on 17. That proved too costly for India.
The Indian bowlers remained ineffective, tired and dejected unlike the English bowlers who wrecked havoc at Eden Gardens yesterday. England are now heading for a big total in the first innings and may try to push for an innings victory too, if they take a lead of 200+. The first session tomorrow would be very crucial for India. If they fail, they would concede the control completely.
