Singapore Court backs Maldives Govt in GMR Case

TNI Bureau: In a big development, which may bring further embarrassment to India, a Singapore court ruled in favour of Maldives government over the GMR Airport contract row. The court defended Maldives’ move to cancel the $511 million airport development contract with GMR Infrastructure.

The Maldives government will take over the airport soon. Sundaresh Menon, the Chief Justice of Singapore, ruled that the Maldives government has the power to do what it wants.

Earlier, India had frozen the aid to Maldives over this issue. The diplomatic ties between both countries have taken a severe beating, but Maldives is not willing to make any changes in its stand.
