BJP wants New CBI Director Recalled
TNI Bureau: The politics over the appointment of new CBI director deepened after the main opposition BJP demanded to recall the appointment of Ranjit Sinha, who has taken the charge as the CBI chief on Thursday.
The Leaders of opposition of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha – Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley- have written to the Prime Minister on the Parliament letterhead, demanding the appointment of the new CBI director has to be recalled. They said that the entire selection process was unfair.
Opposing to the CBI appointment, the BJP said that the new director of the agency should have been appointed according to the provisions set in the Lokpal Bill, which was tabled in Rajya Sabha on Friday.
The Select Committee has recommended that the CBI chief should be appointed by a panel comprising of the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice of India.
While the government claims that the appointment of Sinha as CBI chief as correct under the current law, BJP argued that the government should put the appointment on hold as the Lokpal Bill has not been passed yet.
