Apple sells 5 Million iPhones in First Weekend
TNI Bureau: Apple’s latest Smartphone, iPhone 5 has created a record after selling 5 million units in first weekend of its release. The device went on sale on September 21.
Apple broke its own record of selling 4 million units of the iPhone 4, its predecessor that it sold during last year’s opening weekend.
However, techno experts had speculated the figure (of sell for iPhone 5) even higher and so disappointed though the sell has created a record. The result was that shares of Apple fell by more than 1% by the end of trading on Monday.
Preordered iPhone 5s that have not yet shipped to customers are not counted in Apple’s overall sales figures.
Apple CEO Tim Cook is reportedly pleased with the selling figure as demand outpaced the supply of iPhone 5s.
However, in spite of the huge sell of the device, the newly introduced Apple Maps feature of the iPhone 5 has not been well accepted. Even some tweets complain that some users found the direction to be wrongly directed when they tested.
The iPhone is offered for sale with three carriers such as AT&T, Verizon Wireless and Sprint and isn’t supposed to be interchangeable among their separate networks.
The iPhone 5 comes with features including Siri, turn-by-turn navigation, new (Apple) maps, a panoramic camera with retina display, 4G, restore to iCloud and a new digital dock.
