Indian national Sarabjit Singh, who is in deep coma following a brutal assault in Lahore jail, may be brain dead and he is being sustained by life support system. The report was confirmed by Rajkumar Veerka, Vice Chairman, SC & ST Commission, on Twitter.
“Spoke to Dalbir Kaur in Pakistan, she said that doctors have told her Sarbajit’s brain is dead,” he tweeted.
According to reports on Tuesday, Sarabjit has been decalred brain dead at the state-run Jinnah Hospital where he was admitted. His sister Dalbir Kaur will return to India. She called up her contacts in India to say that the doctors attending to Sarabjit sought her permission to withdraw him from the ventilator support.
The suspicion grew more when Sarabjit’s family members, who were in Pakistan to see him, were allowed to meet him again at the hospital following his condition deteriorated.
Earlier, the Pakistan media had reported that the Indian death row prisoner was in extremely critical condition. Indian government had appealed to its Pak counterpart to send him back to India for better treatment. However, the panel of medical experts decided not to send the victim anywhere outside the country. They made it clear that he will be treated in Pakistan.
