12 Killed, as Terrorists strike in Jammu & Kashmir
In a big development today, a group of armed militants have attacked a police station at Hiranagar in Kathua district of Jammu and another army camp in Samba district, killing 10 people, including five cops, three armymen and two civilians. Two terrorists were also gunned down. The encounter is still going on. Lt. Col. Bikram Jeet was among the dead.
At least three militants are holed up inside the army camp. They entered the camp in army uniform. The army jawans have engaged them into a gun fight. Choppers have been pressed into service to flush out the terrorists.
The terror attack took place in Jammu & Kashmir three days ahead of the proposed meeting between Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meet.
The Congress Party has condemned the attacks, but without blaming Pakistan, it said that attempts are being made to hinder the peace process between both neighbours. On the other hand, the BJP has called for suspension of talks with Pakistan till the terror activities are completely stopped.
