Woman raped by 42 Men in 1996, awaits Justice
TNI Bureau: The 23-year-old Delhi gangrape victim died after battling for life for 13 days, but another rape victim from Kerala has been fighting for the justice. The 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by 42 men for 40 days in 1996.
The victim approached the Supreme Court in 2005 challenging the Kerala High Court that acquitted 35 convicts, who were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment by the special court on September 6, 2000.
The high court had found only one guilty of raping the girl and sentenced him to five years jail term and a fine of Rs 50,000.
The victim Suryanelli was abducted in January 1996 and gangraped continuously for 40 days by 42 men.
While the protesters have been demanding death penalty for the accused of 23-year-old gangrape victim, surprisingly, nobody is fighting for the Kerala victim as it was not national issue. However, the Kerala braveheart did not lose hope and has been fighting to get justice.
The apex court has assured that case, which is pending for last 8 years, the hearing would begin within three weeks.
