Police Brutality in Aligarh, Women Assaulted
While the ruling Samajwadi Party claimed that the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh is far better than Delhi, police brutality was reported in Aligarh and women were assaulted during a protest over an alleged rape and murder of a minor.
Police resorted to baton charge and fired in the air to disperse the protesters in which seven people including two women were injured. TV channels showed that police thrashed women protesters.
Additional Director General (Law and Order) Arun Kumar ordered a probe into the matter and asked the DIG Aligarh Division Prakash D to submit his report within three days.
The women protesters were demanding justice for a six-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and murdered in Nagla Kalar area in Aligarh on Thursday. The mob had blocked the traffic for several hours at the main Aligarh-Delhi Grand Trunk road.
Watching the entire incident on electronic channels, National Commission for Women chairperson Mamta Sharma questioned on the law and order situation that the government flaunts. She demanded suspension of the cops, who were thrashing the women during the demonstration.
