Phaneesh Murthy: From Fame to Disgrace
The former head of global operations of Infosys and the former CEO of iGate Phaneesh Murthy (49) was sacked by his last employer company with a charge of sexual harassment yesterday.
Murthy, a California-based IIT-IIM alumnus rose to fame after joining Infosys. He became the head of its global operations. However, he fell from grace in 2002 when Infosys made him quit the company after a complaint of sexual harassment by his secretary Reka Maximovitch. His company had to borne a huge amount of $3 million with the Bulgarian-American national as an out-of-court settlement.
But the disgraced Murthy did not lose heart and played the second innings. He founded his own company Quintant Services Limited, a business process outsourcing company and sold it to iGate Global Solutions Ltd merely after eight months. Now he became a lead player of the merged entity and on April 1, 2008, takes over as CEO and president of iGate.
However, yesterday on 20th May 2013, iGate board disgraced the business leader with the same charge of sexual harassment that he had faced earlier in 2002. The company found that Murthy was in relationship with a subordinate employee and is found guilty of not reporting this relationship in violation of the company policy and norms listed in his employment contract.
Murthy earned his Graduates with a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras in 1985, his MBA from IIM Ahmadabad in 1987 and joined Infosys Technologies in 1992.
