Mamata sweeps West Bengal Panchayat Polls
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee scored a major victory in the panchayat polls in the state, leaving the Left and Congress way behind. While Left and the Congress accused Mamata of rigging the polls, she is unfazed after this resounding victory in West Bengal Panchayat polls.
Trinamool Congress will control 13 out the 17 Zilla Parishads in West Bengal. The Left and Congress won one ZP each, while two Zilla Parishads threw hung verdicts. The panchayat poll verdict came as a big shocker for the Left, which sought a revival, riding high on law and order situation in Bengal.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) emerged victorious in Nadia, West Midnapore, Howrah, Cooch Behar, South Dinajpur, Bankura, Burdwan, Birbhum, North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, Purulia, East Midnapore and Hooghly. The Left parties may capture North Dinajpur and Jalpaiguri. Congress won in Murshidabad. In Malda, no party has secured majority. The TMC will play the role of the kingmaker here.
