High Speed Train derails in Spain, 80 Killed
A high-speed train derailed in north-western Spain, leaving 80 dead and 130 injured. Over 32 people are said to be critical. One of the drivers of the train, who escaped with minor injury, is being interrogated. Preliminary investigations found no technical problems on the train.
The incident occurred in Galicia region in Santiago while the train was passing through an under-bridge. Some reports say the permissible speed on that track was 80km/hour, but the train was running at a speed of 190km/hour, leading to the tragedy.
A video, which shows the train running at a high speed and then derailing off the track before crashing to the ground, was displayed by the media world over. Either a system error or driver’s error could be the reasons behind the train mishap. The crash occurred while train was taking a curve.
